Active Over 50s

Durrow Active Over 50’S Club was formed in 2003. Six members completed the Physical Activity Leader’s Workshops (PALS), a Go for Life national programme for sports and physical activity for older people. A number of those people have attended refresher courses organised by Laois Sports Partnership in recent years. The Club is open to both male and female members. We meet in the Community Centre every Tuesday evening where we have warm-up exercises followed by games which include: boles, horseshoe throwing, skittles, darts, pool, air hockey, quiz games etc…

On summer evenings we go for walks through the scenic walking areas around Durrow, weather permitting. We go on regular outings to take part in Ten Pin Bowling and Indoor Bowling, visits to the Cinema etc… The members look forward to meeting their friends on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm to 9pm as many members live alone they find the Club a great social outlet, where they can interact and catch up with local news and events.
