Development Forum
Durrow Development Forum (DDF) is a voluntary community group dedicated to the physical, environmental, economic, social and cultural enhancement of the town. Durrow Development Forum has been at the forefront of positive development in Durrow since its inception in 1997. Since that date we have completed many worthwhile community development projects:
- Provided computers and computer classes for local community
- Produced local business booklet
- Arranged Millennium Celebrations and floodlighting Old Bridge
- Arranged Durrow Litter-Awareness Campaign
- Developed Mill Wheel Amenity Area, Canon Carrigan Amenity Area and Durrow Brick Amenity Area
- Development of Leafy Loop Walk
- Local History Trail
- Durrow Design Statement
- Fundraising
- Old Courthouse project which includes Library and Museum
- Emigrant Theme Park
- Google Earth Project
- Tri-Centenary Celebrations, a year long celebration of the period from 1708 – 2008 in Durrow
- Architectural Conservation Study
- Won Pride of Place in 2006
- Leafy Loop Walk upgraded to Failte Ireland standard
- Community Playground “Daru na nOg” developed in the grounds of Old Boys’ School
- Non-motorised St. Patrick’s Day Parade held every year
- Annual Art Festival
- Scarecrow Festival held annualy
- Durrow Online Website
- Planting of Daffodils and Beech hedging along N77 north in conjunction with Durrow Tidy Towns
- Christmas lighting of Square (excl. Christmas Tree)
We work ongoing with Durrow Tidy Towns, Our Lady’s Meadow Primary School, Church of Ireland, Catholic Church, the local community organisations, clubs and business people and the community of Durrow. For Parades and Festivals we form working groups and sub-committees with volunteers, without whose help we would not achieve so much. We get support from Failte Ireland, Arts Council of Ireland, Laois Sports Partnership, Laois Partnership (formerly Laois Rural Development), Laois County Council.
