Durrow Tidy Towns has reviewed the findings of the 2018 national Swift survey for the Durrow area to identify changes in the local Swift population. The changes were negative, in that the Swifts located in 2018 are no longer present in the town. DTT made contact with the regional officer for Birdwatch Ireland who advised the installation of Swift boxes and a Swift caller system as, given the proximity of the Erkina river to the town centre, there are a number of ideal nest sites if Swifts can be attracted back.

Due to reduced funding it was not possible to meet this objective this year, therefore, the objective for 2021/2022 is to source funding for Swift nest boxes and caller system and seek agreement from property owners regarding installation.
