Durrow Tidy Towns organised a 16km litter pick on Saturday 6th March in conjunction with Abbeyleix TidyTowns, Cullohill TidyTowns and The Harps GAA and Abbeyleix GAA clubs. We had a huge turnout in all areas and it should be noted that all volunteers followed Covid-19 guidelines. They have had great support from Laois Federation of TidyTowns and Laois County Council who also supplied litter bags, gloves, litter pickers and collection of rubbish from the Litter pick. It was fantastic also to see that Mountmellick TidyTowns also got involved and that other TidyTowns groups and GAA clubs in Laois are doing so over the coming weeks, fantastic community spirit. Litter picking happens constantly in the background by all TidyTowns Groups on a daily basis, it’s not seen but it happens and is carried out by a huge community of volunteers. This initiative is about joined up thinking for communities and it turned out to be hugely beneficial to everyone, there was a great sense of community and joy in people being out volunteering.
