Derrywood Residents

Derrywood Housing Estate is situated on the Kilkenny Road and is the first private housing development in Durrow. The estate consists of forty-four semi-detached and detached houses and was completed in 2001.

A Resident’s Association was established in 2004 and in order to commence maintenance of the estate, all residents were invited to make an annual Subscription to the Association. With these funds the committee was in a position to employ a landscaper to undertake the maintenance and landscaping work and to develop good quality lawns and planting in the estate throughout the year.

The current committee with Seamus Campion as Chairman has continued to engage the services of a landscaper for the upkeep of the estate. In addition to this, the committee organises a “Clean-Up Evening” in the estate during the Spring and Autumn of each year. These events have proven to be very popular with families and the results are evident for all to see.

Derrywood Resident’s Association is very proud of the fact that all of our hard work and efforts did not go unnoticed on the national stage! Derrywood Estate was successful in winning an award in the “Laois County Council Environment Awards” for the Best Private Housing Estate in that category for three years in a row, 2007, 2008 and 2009. All our residents were delighted with this achievement and in honour of this; it was decided to erect a plaque at the entrance of the estate to mark the event.

These awards are a constant reminder of the great community spirit in Derrywood and it’s only with the continued help and support of each and every household that we are in a position to keep the estate looking its best and are a source of pride to the organisers and residents alike.

Our aim for the future is the continued success of Derrywood and its residents and to ensure that we are included in all forthcoming Environment Award competitions. We hope to see the name “Derrywood Estate” shining brightly in the not too distant future!
