Seandoire Residents
The Seandoire estate comprises of twenty two houses and eight bungalows was opened in 2004 on the southwestern edge of Durrow. A residents committee was formed in August of 2007 and since forming, the committee have secured the lease on an excess piece of land in order to develop it. It is proposed that this area will become a playground and a seven-aside soccer pitch.
Fundraising has been a major project over the past years. In 2011 thirteen children and five adults from the estate took a tour of local playgrounds around Laois. A survey was completed by the children who attended to determine what type of equipment they would like to see erected in their new playground.
The excess green area has been drained, levelled & cleared to make way for the plans to be adopted. The late summer of 2012 should see the start of development. It is hoped that the new green area will enhance our community ties further.
For the last two years the committee have organised for Santa to visit the estate and deliver a gift to each child. Santa arrived in a fire engine much to the delight of everyone. Each home regardless of having a child residing there received a small gift. This has proved to be a great success. We hope to continue with this tradition each year.
Also, each year the committee organise and run a kiddies Halloween disco. This is open to children living in the estate and to other local children. There are organised games run in age appropriate sections, sweet stalls, raffles and entertainment.
