Bridge Club
The Durrow Bridge Club have been playing bridge for the last 30 years. We cater for all ages and at present we have 50 members in the club, new members always welcome. Membership is twenty euro per year and four euro a week to play. We play every Wednesday night in the Presentation Hall at 8pm.
We have members playing in charities and some go to congress to play. We hold a charity night each year for the blind of Laois where we raise an average of €200 which all goes to them and we also hold a charity night for Abbeyleix hospital where all the funds raised goes to there also. We have a Christmas Party each year in the Presentation Centre where we play bridge and have a supper afterwards. Some members supply the food for the night and other members bring the prizes.
The Bank of Ireland sponsors a league each year for a perpetual cup, the bridge is played over a three-week league and the person with the highest score at the end wins. During the bridge season the club members sponsors prizes to be played for on the night. At the end of the season we play for the Presidents prize and the President presents the prizes at the dinner night. We are very thankful for the use of the Presentation Hall in Durrow.
