The Harps Camogie Club was founded in 1994 and is comprised of girls from the villages of Durrow, Cullohill, Ballacolla and surrounding areas in County Laois. In the late 90s and early 2000s the club won several Feile na nGael under 14 titles and also several county under age titles. The fortunes of the club at senior level began to change in 2005 when the team reached the County Semi Final but unfortunately were beaten by St. Brigids of Rathdowney after a number of replays.
The turning point for The Harps girls came in 2006 seeing them become County, Leinster and All Ireland Club Champions for the first time beating Keady from Armagh in the All Ireland final. The year of 2007 saw them reign victorious for a second year beating Keady again in the All Ireland final and The Harps girls made it three All Irelands in a row on November 16th 2008 beating Kilmaley from Clare.
In 2009 they continued their winning trail winning County and Leinster titles but unfortunately lost to St. Anne’s, Dunhill, Waterford in the All Ireland Semi Final. In 2010 due to their recent years of success The Harps girls were promoted to Intermediate level but still continued to win County and Leinster titles and were the pride of the local area when they headed to Croke Park to play the All Ireland Final on the 6th March, 2011. The big stage proved too much for the girls though, and unfortunately were beaten by Eoghan Rua from Derry in the final.
In 2011 The Harps girls continued their line of success and again won County and Leinster titles but unfortunately were beaten yet again in the All Ireland semi-final by the previous years winners Eoghan Rua of Derry. However, The Harps Camogie girls refuse to give up and are training hard again in each year determined to bring further success to their area and hopefully will go one further this year and bring home the All Ireland title again.
