Moyne Polo Club

Moyne Polo Club was founded in 1996 with the aim of providing affordable polo and a nursery for young talent. The younger a player starts the better and the more likely they will be to play the game at a higher standard as adults. At the moment the level of polo in Ireland is very poor because most players only take up the game as adults. In a nation of horse-lovers this is a pity but we have reached the point at Movne where we have a generation of players under 12 years of age who will soon be taking on the adults on their own terms. For them the sky will be the limit.

However, at any level, polo is a game that can be enjoyed by anyone who can ride a horse. It produces a great deal of adrenalin, is not nearly as difficult as it looks and elicits highly competitive behaviour from the most surprising people! At Moyne we play every Wednesday and Friday evening and on Sunday afternoons from May to September, always allowing for the weather. We hold a Midsummer Ball and one-day tournament in June, a two-day tournament on the penultimate weekend in July and a tournament in August with the emphasis on junior polo.

The club is affiliated to the Hurlingham Polo Association, which is the ruling body for polo throughout most of the world apart from the Americas. Polo days are an opportunity for families and friends to gather around the barbecue and spend summer days out of doors in a relaxed atmosphere. Several weddings have occurred as a direct result of the club’s formation!
