DURROW TIDY TOWN COMMITTEE: Durrow Tidy Town Committee would like to remind everyone that April is National Spring Clean month. Work nights will continue every Thurday and Thursday during this month. Gloves and plastic sacks can be got from the FAS Office in the Computer Centre on any week morning from Monday to Friday. Please come out and help pick the litter on the approach roads to the town and throughout the town.
DURROW COMMUNITY CENTRE: Durrow Community Centre Snooker Club are holding a Cabaret in the Castle Arms Hotel on Saturday 30th April. Music by Soundz Country and tickets €5 each can be purchased from any member of the Snooker Club. There will be a door prize on the night and all proceeds will go towards the refurbishment of the snooker tables.
THIRD LAOIS DURROW SCOUTS: The third Annual Draw for the Scouts will take place on Sunday night in the Castle Arms Hotel. Tickets are still available from any of the Leaders or can be purchased on Sunday night in the hotel. The proceeds of this draw go towards the running costs of the Scouts and helps pay for buses and training of Leaders.
LADIES MINI MARATHON – THE DURROW WALKERS: The form for the marathon is now in The Evening Hearld on Thursdays and Saturdays. Do not delay. Closing date for entry forms is the 29th April 2005. Collection date for race members 24th May 2005 in Springhill Court Hotel, Kilkenny. The ladies taking part in the marathon are doing it for the Laois Hospice Foundation. So please give generously. HARPS GAA: The Harps GAA will hold an awards night for the successful Minor Hurlers, Camogie Team and Junior C Football Teams who all won silverware last season. A function will be held on Saturday April 9th in The Castle Arms Hotel. A great night is assured.
SEAN O’BRIEN TO WALK IN PERU FOR THE MS SOCIETY: Local businessman Sean O`Brien, Derry Road, Durrow, has undertaken to walk for ten consecutive days in Peru and to raise €4,650 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The walk will take place in September and Sean will be enlisting the support of everyone in his efforts to raise the money. Please support this great effort by Sean and the MS Society. THE ROAD TO CALVERY 2005: Fr. Hennessy and all who participated in the Passion of Christ Play in St. Tighearnachs Church, Cullohill on Good Friday would like to thank most sincerely everybody who contributed in the many different ways, e.g. Prop, Making, Fas, Choir, Oldtown for their financial contributions towards the cost of the production. HAVE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES? Durrow Development Forum Ltd., is a progressive and committed voluntary organisation involved in the physical, social, environmental, and economic enhancement of Durrow. Since 1997 we have been at the forefront in the promotion and enhancement of Durrow, completing projects such as the Mill Wheel Amenity area, the Canon Carrigan Amenity area, New Limestone Street Signage, additional Christmas Lighting, the creation of the Leafy Loop walk, the floodlighting and enhancement of the Old Bridge area and the Lord Mayor competition to name by a few.
Due to an interesting and varied programme for future development we are now seeking expressions of interest from local people (male and female) with a view to becoming involved at committee level to ensure completion of projects. If you feel you would like to become involved in our organisation please contact any of the following: Hughie Sheppard (Chairman), Walter Foyle (Secretary), Ann Lannigan (Assistant Secretary) and Mary Walsh (Treasurer). Alternatively you could attend a special information meeting at 9pm on Tuesday May 3rd at Castle Durrow Hotel.
DURROW TIDY TOWNS AGM: The Annual General Meeting of Durrow Tidy Towns Committee will be held on Thursday 28th April at 8.30pm in the Castle Arms Hotel. Representatives from all Residents Associations in the town are invited to attend along with all interested members of the Committee. The support and co-operation of everyone is important to make Durrow a cleaner and better place to live in. We look forward to seeing you on the night. Laois Clean Up Week is from this Monday 25th to Friday 29th April, so we ask everyone to come out and make a special effort each evening this week to pick litter on all approach roads.

DURROW COMMUNITY COUNCIL: RE: COUNTY COUNCIL GRAVEYARD AT DURROW: Dumping in this graveyard is strictly prohibited. Anyone caught dumping here will be prosecuted. No Exceptions made. The litter warden will be notified immediately. Fines are substantial. Please bring home with you all waste matter from graves e.g. old wreaths, flowers, weeds, containers, clay, stones and so forth. Remember: Dumping in this graveyard will not be tolerated. You’ve been warned.
CULLOHILL CLEAN UP LAOIS WEEK: April 25th to 29th: Everyone is asked to get out and clean the road sides during this week. All full bags of litter will be collected but definitely no household rubbish. Please do not leave tin cans at the Cullohill Bottle Bank as only aluminium drinks can be recycled.
DURROW SUMMER CAMP 2005: This years Summer Camp which is sponsored by Third Laois Durrow Scout Group will be held at the Old Boy’s School, Durrow from Tuesday 2nd to Friday 12th August for four to ten year old boys and girls. Application forms will be given out through the schools in Durrow and Cullohill during the coming week. BROADBAND FOR DURROW CAMPAIGN: The campaign is now at an end and many names have been gathered. Digiweb have declared an interest in providing Durrow and Cullohill with a broadband service, subject to grant aid from the Government. It is hoped that this application will be successful and that our community will have a broadband service by the end of this year. This campaign has been run by Durrow Development Forum in partnership with Laois Leader, The Midland Regional Authority, Laois County Council and Digiweb. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: The relatives of the late Ellen Sullivan of Cullohill Village would like to express their sincere thanks to all those who attended her removal, Mass and internment. Thanks also to all who sent Mass Cards, messages of sympathy and floral tributes. A special word of gratitude to Fr. Tobin, the doctors and nurses and all her neighbours and friends who made such a huge effort to help and care for her in so many ways during her illness.
