TO BE TRULY GREAT

“What were you arguing on the road?” Christ asked his followers one day. They were embarrassed by his question for they had been arguing which of them was the greatest. Even they though so close to Jesus were hungry for positions of honour and superiority.

Today there is sorrow and injustice being imposed on many people, races, nations because of such unhealthy rivalry. How can a nation with wealth and power justify aggression and greed against a weaker nation?

For Jesus greatness consists not in domination but in service. Behind service stands the word “love”. There are those who think they “love God” but freeze people – those who disdain to extend the helping hand – those who refuse to respond to the plight of the oppressed. We come to God through and with one another.
