Thoughts of the Day

Benefits and boons and blessing’s, mercies big and small. Add them up. You’ll find life’s not so hopeless after all. Difficulties may increase and cares be multiplied – but don’t forget to count the entries on the credit side.

**************************

Shine and shower! They come together all along the way. Life with all its ups and downs is like an April day. It’s easy to go smiling through the bright and sunny hours – but we have to learn to go a-singing through the showers.

Trocaire relief efforts – Kosovo Conflict

Over 500,000 Albanian Kosovars have been forced to flee their country to seek sanctuary in neighbouring Albania and Macedonia. Hundreds of thousands more are displaced within Kosovo.

Kosovo was once home to an estimated 1.8 million people of whom 90% were ethnic Albanians. Even before the NATO offensive, 26% of the population were already displaced within the country.Ethnic cleansing has seen that flow of displaced people turn into a massive flood of refugees……. largely women, children and elderly people. Once in safety (over the borders) they have no money to buy food or clothes, shelter or medicine.

Thanks to the generosity of the Irish public, Trocaire has raised £400,000 for the emergency operation. Trocaire funding has allowed food and non food items such as blankets, matresses, clean water and medicine to be distributed to the refugees. Trocaire pledge to you:

EVERY PENNY THAT YOU GIVE TO TROCAIRE WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE KOSOVO APPEAL. NO FUNDS WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR ADMINISTRATION.

Support the Trocaire special Kosovo appeal this weekend. NB as a measure of our charity, please do not hold another collection at the church gates. Congratulations to Midlands Radio and Bridgid Newman, Durrow on all they have achieved in the past week for the Kosovo appeal. More clothing and food is needed.

Vocation Sunday

Today is the 36th World Day of Prayer for Vocations to the priesthood and religious Life. Please pray for those who are responding to God’s Call to priesthood and religious life. Pray that more and more people will choose to make a difference by following their particular vocation with great earnestness and sincerity. Remember those priests, brothers, sisters, who made a difference to your life and make a special effort to pray for them. Pray for those whom you think would be good priests or religious, that they may respond generously to God’s call.
