The Feast Of Christ The King

The Solemnity of Christ the King comes as we wind to the close of another year. What does it mean? In a word that claim of God’s law upon the human heart takes priority over all other claims.

When we speak of the heart we also speak of freedom, which as God’s gift, permits love. Christ’s way is to draw us to Him not compel us. He wants us to accept Him freely. This is the reason why he never worked a miracle until He saw evidence of faith. It was never the other way round. First faith, then miracle, never the miracle first. Christ is a King of hearts, then He invites us, draws us, to Himself. Today we pray that we will utilize our freedom to follow Christ our King, to allow ourselves to be drawn by his love. We ask Him to enlighten our conciences, where he speaks to us in the innermost recesses  of our personhood and helps us to respond to His subtle summons. We do this by reviewing our allegiance to Him today as Lord of Lords and King of Kings forever. The annual Solemnity of Christ the King gives us fresh opportunity to rehearse the truth, that the coming of Jesus’ Kingdom can be accelerated by our daily witness – and prayer.

Advent follows this beautiful Feast so why not think of daily Mass now to prepare for the next great Feast – that of Christmas.
