DURROW TEXT ALERT: The committee of Durrow Text Alert group are continuing to seek subscribers to the service prior to it’s launch in the near future. Most households have completed forms and paid the annual membership fee already, however a few households may have been missed when the door-to-door call was made earlier in the summer. SOCIAL DANCE CLASSES: Social Dance classes continue at the Community Hall, Johnstown on Wednesday nights from 8.30pm in a social atmosphere, while losing weight and tone the muscles you can learn the old time waltz, the quick step, the jive, the foxtrot, the slosh and many other dances. CLOTHES COLLECTION POINT: Any old or unwanted clothes or fabric can be left in the porch of the Cullohill Community Centre. All in aid of Cullohill Handball Club. Please support.

FIRE SAFETY WEEK: As part of Fire Safety and Rescue Week Durrow Fire and Rescue service are also holding an adult night where they will demonstrate how to do CPR and how to use AED. Please check with Station Officer Gearoid Ryan or Sub-Officer David Donohue for full details on this night. In recent months the need for the use of CPR and AED meant that lives were saved by the quick intervention of CPR and the Fire Service with the AED in the Durrow area.

HEDGE CUTTING: Landowners are reminded by Laois County Council that the period for Hedge Cutting runs from 1st September 2015 to the 29th February, 2016. Landowners have a responsibility to ensure that hedges, ditches, trees or any other vegetation growing on their land are not nor could not become a danger to individuals using or working on a public road. Hedgerows along the public road that require cutting or trimming back should be cut immediately and all cuttings moved… Many thanks.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR: A Christmas Craft Fair will take place in the Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow on Saturday, 7th November from 11am to 6pm and will feature Crafts people from all over counties Laois and Kilkenny who will present their unique Christmas gifts at affordable prices. SATURDAY MARKET: Durrow Saturday market is open every Saturday from 9am to 12.30pm in the Computer Centre beside the RC Church on the Kilkenny Rd. DURROW BEFRIENDING GROUP: The aim of the Group is to lessen social isolation and enhance the quality of life. If you are feeling isolated, lonely and need a friend to talk to please contact Pat on (086) 8096693. This service is totally confidential and we will not in any way interfere with your lifestyle, or get in the way of you doing the things you have to do every day. Your visitor will drop in just for a friendly chat, to talk about the things happening in your area, things hitting the national headlines, or anything else you would like to chat about.
The relationship is a voluntary one on both sides. The Befriender is there to provide some form of regular, practical assistance and support. If you feel we can be of help to you or would like to find out more about this service do not hesitate to contact us on the above phone number.

BALLINAKILL BINGO: Monday night in the hall on The Square at 8.30pm and there is €1,000 in prize money every week. We also run a raffle.
