NATIONAL VEGETABLE SOCIETY: The national Vegetable Society held a virtual vegetable show on September 1st, 2020. The competition consisted in each entry had to give photo evidence from the start of the season up till the closing date. They then submitted their entry plus photographs taken throughout the growing season. The entry was for four distinct varieties displayed showing off their quality. It was then judged by a National Vegetable Society qualified judge. After a close competition Harold Lawlor came out on top as the best vegetable grower in Ireland. This achievement is all the greater since Harold celebrated his 97th birthday in July. Harold has been the All-Ireland vegetable grower champion in 2019 and has won several championships since the start of the decade. The competition was held this way in 2020 as there was no horticultural shows and with Covid-19 no gatherings were allowed.
