Laois Kayak & Canoe Club – Mid December 2014 Roundup
Vicarstown: The club had an enjoyable and frosty mornings paddling on the canal at Vicarstown on December 7th. Club members enjoyed trying out the different boats and in particular enjoyed racing in the K Boats. Members are already psyched up for the battle of the barge in Vicarstown in 2015 and don’t intend to let the barge win next year!
St Stephen’s Day Paddle: The Clubs St. Stephen’s Day paddle will take place on 26th December leaving from the Wooden Bridges at 10am sharp. Meet at The Square, Durrow at 9.30am. This is a fundraiser and price per kayaker is €10 to include food in Bob’s Bar and Raffle ticket after the race.
Club members are reminded to paddle safely with the higher water levels and never to paddle alone.
Congratulations to Calvin O’Brien who came sixth in the first round of the National Freestyle championships took place on the Lower Corrib in Galway. This is a big achievement since he has moved from Junior to Senior Kayaking.
Training continues and we look forward to the next round of the championships over the coming months. The Freestyle 2015 World Championships Team Trials training continues and the trials will take place on the 7th and 8th February 2015.
Christmas: We wish to take this opportunity to wish all our club members a very happy Christmas and an enjoyable paddling New Year. We will have a range of programmes for 2015 and for those of you who are considering taking up paddling in 2015, please do! There will be a wide range of activities to help you on your way and we have equipment and boats that can be borrowed so that you can try out kayaking. All details will be available on our website and Facebook page.
AGM: Our AGM will take place in February 2015 – the date will be confirmed closer to the time.
Also, as is standard and due to the shorter evenings, paddling will now be on at the weekends only. Please keep an eye out on Facebook and on our web site for details http://www.laoiskayak.com online.
