OUR LADY’S MEADOW PRIMARY SCHOOL: Enrolment will take place for Our Lady’s Meadow Primary School, starting February 3rd to February 28th. Enrolment forms can be picked up from the School Office between 9am and 3pm.

GET IRELAND WALKING: Get Ireland Walking is encouraging all walking groups to register. It doesn’t matter how formal or informal the group is, once you are walking on a regular basis and have walks that are accessible to beginners we would encourage you to join the “Get Ireland Walking” network and help us build a vibrant culture of walking in Ireland. Registering will give your group free insurance cover for your volunteer walk leaders and group coordinators. For further information, please visit the www.getirelandwalking.ie website online.

CULLOHILL SCHOOL REUNION: For all who attended both old Schools a reunion will be held on 20th and 21st September. On Saturday 20th September from 10am to 1pm there will be Golf at Rathdowney Golf Course, Evening Mass at 6pm with a Meal in the Community Centre at 8pm. On Sunday 21st September at 12pm there will be a walk up Cullohill Mountain followed by refreshments in the Community Centre. Photographs are urgently required for the commemorative School Book. If you have any school, class or family photographs that the Committee could borrow (they will be returned to the owners) it would be much appreciated and will enable the committee to compile the book.

CULLOHILL SCHOOL ENROLMENT: Scoil Tighearnach Naofa, Cullohill is now taking the names of pupils who wish to enrol in the school for September 2014. Telephone the office with details on (057) 8737281 from 9:30am to 1:30pm during school term.

APPEAL: Old Scouts Material etc… We are making a big plea to all past members, Youth and Adult members to see if any of you have any old uniforms or old scouting books, photos etc… in your house and no longer have a use for them – could you please pass it back to Anglea Drennan or Maureen Campion we would like to start collecting up some memorabilia for our group from over the last 32 years. Many thanks for your help with this project!

DURROW FADO WRITERS GROUP: People with a genuine interest in creative writing required to join the above group, initially to assist in writing a drama based on a specific episode in the history of Durrow, and subsequently to compile local data of a social and historical nature for future publications. Workshops are expected to commence in early February. No previous writing experience, or indeed in-depth knowledge of local history is required. GO FOR LIFE – OVER 50s ACTIVITIES: Go for Life is the national programme for sport and physical activity for people over 50. The aim of Go for Life is to involve greater numbers of older adults in all aspects of sport and physical activity. It is run by Age & Opportunity in partnership with the Health Promotion Units of the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Local Sports Partnerships. The following workshops will be held over the coming weeks…

  • Basic Principles: Tuesday 11th February in St Mary’s Hall, Portlaoise from 10am to 3pm.
  • Sit Fit Activities: Tuesday 18th February in St Mary’s Hall, Portlaoise from 10am to 3pm.
  • Better Balance: Tuesday 25th February in St Mary’s Hall, Portlaoise from 10am to 3pm.
  • Going Strong: Tuesday 4th March in in St Mary’s Hall, Portlaoise from 10am to 3pm.
  • Rolling & Bowling: Tuesday 11th March in Marca Hall, Portlaoise from 10am to 3pm.
  • Pitching & Tossing: Tuesday 18th March in Marca Hall, Portlaoise from 10am to 3pm.
  • Stepping & Strolling: Tuesday 25th March in Marca Hall, Portlaoise from 10am to 3pm.
  • PAL’s Skills: Tuesday 1st April in Marca Hall Portlaoise from 10am to 3pm.

Anyone who plans to attend the Physical Activities Day and has recently had medical problems should consult their GP before participating.
