St. Stephen’s Day Annual Paddle: There was a great turn out for the clubs annual St. Stephen’s Day paddle despite the rain. Kayakers departed the Woodenbridges and paddled down into Durrow. Despite the Christmas dinner the day before, all paddlers arrived in good time and proceeded into Bob’s Bar afterwards for food and discussion on the kayaking run.
Laois Kayaker of the Year Award 2014: The Clubs Kayaker of the year award was presented to Calvin O’Brien for his paddling achievements in 2014. This award will be presented on an annual basis.
Great Island Sea Kayak Race: Congratulations to Paul Byrne and Matt Mc Grath who took part in the Great Island Sea Kayak Race on the 29th December. This is a gruelling 25km race and it’s a great achievement for both kayakers to have taken part in the race.
Laois Community & Voluntary Awards 2014: Congratulations to club member Calvin O’Brien who has been nominated for the Laois County Council Young Person of the Year award 2014. The awards will take place in the Dunamaise Arts Centre Portlaoise on Thursday 15th January and we wish Calvin the best of luck!
U16 Marathon Racing Championships 2014: A huge congratulations to club member Mikie Murphy on winning the U16 Marathon Racing Championships 2014. The club has very competitive junior and senior kayakers and we are delighted with Mikies win.
Freestyle Team Trials 2015: The Freestyle 2015 World Championships Team Trials training continues and the trials will take place the 7th and 8th February 2015.
AGM: Our AGM will take place in February 2015, date will be confirmed closer to the time.
Interested in Kayaking: As is standard and due to the shorter evenings, paddling will now be on at the weekends only. We wish all our club members and families the very best for 2015 and we look forward to meeting you all on the water. If you are interested in taking up paddling, we will be having training sessions in the coming months as the evenings get longer and these sessions are a perfect opportunity to try it out.
