Adopt an Area – is there an area in Durrow you’d like to adopt?  After our Bronze Win in 2023 and our biggest ever points jump, we need help over the coming months as we aim for a Silver Medal for Durrow in the 2024 National Tidy Towns Competition. If the volunteer days don’t suit you, would you like to adopt an area to weed, sweep, water, clean and keep tidy this year? Let us know on 087 9626350 or message our facebook page. If you would like to be added to our volunteer WhatsApp group, please text Add me to TT volunteers on 086 3657833 – many thanks!
UNWANTED TEDDIES: We are grateful to be able to fundraise through the Scarecrow Festival for Tidy Towns projects and it seems early but if any of you or your children’s friends children are finished with Teddy Bears – can you please keep the festival for the prizes on your mind. Charity shops don’t take Teddies anymore and it would be great if anyone has any that they could put in the washing machine and dry over the coming months as the weather gets better. They are always a great and ‘old fashioned’ hit with visitors and a fantastic way to recycle into a circular economy whilst also helping with fundraising for Tidy Towns. Thanks everyone! REPORT – Kilkenny and District League U16 Division 1: Thomastown 2 V 3 Lions AFC. Scorers: Sean Dempsey, Eoin Holland and John Coonan.
A big win on Monday March 18th last for our U16 boys as they came from behind to beat the hosts in Thomastown’s fantastic new AstroTurf.  This was a cracking game of football and a great advertisement for the Kilkenny League. Both teams set up to win the game and it was the Lions who drew first blood as Sean Dempsey put the Lions ahead after 10 minutes. Thomastown who played with a strong wind in the first half levelled after thirty minutes and went ahead just before half time.
The Lions started the second half on the front foot and Ciaran and Sean were proving a handful for the Thomastown defence. With twenty minutes left Eoin Holland levelled after a fantastic run and finish from the halfway line that included a couple of one-two’s with John and Scott. With both teams looking for a winner it took a wonder strike from John Coonan to settle the game when his first time shot nestled in the top corner. Both teams had chances to add to their tally but fantastic goalkeeping from both keepers meant that the Lions finished as 3-2 winners. Well done lads, keep up the good work!
