SESKIN WINDFARM GROUP: On 6th May last a committee meeting was held. This was attended by Stephen Keogh, CEPA, who gave an informative presentation on the effects of these Windfarms on communities in terms of his work with this organisation and from his own personal experience. It is expected that planning permission for this Windfarm will be lodged with both Laois and Kilkenny County Councils in the next couple of weeks. Please see the information leaflets regarding this proposed windfarm between Durrow, Lisdowney and Ballyragget, which we are in the process of delivering to all homes in the community. We cannot understate the negative impact this proposed wind farm will have on our community and future generations.
It is anticipated that we will hold a community information meeting in two weeks with a confirmed venue, date and time for same. As always, if anyone in the community wishes to get involved and help out, it would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, please inform your friends and neighbours. It is vital that all persons in the community are made aware of this proposed development.

SPRING TIME FLOWERS – ADVICE NOTICE: While picking wildflowers has been a traditional pastime, it’s generally discouraged in Ireland due to the risks of over-picking and the protection of certain species, conservation is important and leaving the flowers for all to enjoy is more beneficial.
You can pick ramsons (also known as wild garlic) in Ireland, but it’s important to identify them correctly and to forage responsibly, ensuring you are picking from public land or have permission from the landowner. Over picking is disastrous and following the 1/20 rule is strongly recommended and encouraged.
It’s illegal to pick or dig up wild bluebells and vital to ensure if purchasing same, to make sure your new plants have been cultivated by a reputable source and that they haven’t been imported from abroad. Bluebells from abroad will destroy our Native Irish Bluebells. Dunnes Garden Centre Durrow will advise best on this.
Please don’t pick our Leucojum aestivum, commonly called the summer snowflake, these are growing wild on our walkways and are also protected.
