New Year – New Clubhouse for Kayak and Canoe Club
LAOIS KAYAK & CANOE CLUB: New Club House: Laois Kayak & Canoe Club is delighted to have moved into their new club house at the Old Bridge in Durrow. What was the Durrow Pipe Band room was recently acquired by the club to continue developing kayaking and canoeing in the community. Members got an opportunity to view their facility following the club’s successful St. Stephen’s Day trip on the Erkina where over 30 paddlers braved the winter elements.
Introduction: With eight qualified instructors, Laois Kayak & Canoe Club will run a series of introduction and beginner sessions from its new base throughout 2016 for anyone interested in trying out the sport. Further details can be found at www.laoiskayak.com online.
Great Island Kayak Race: Congratulations to club members who braved the winter elements for the great island kayak race in Cobh last week-end, it was enjoyed by all.
Freestyle European Team Trials: The date is set for the Freestyle 2016 European Irish Team trials and will take place in Tuam Co. Galway on the 20th and 21st February.
Bobs Bar: We were sorry to hear about the flooding of Bobβs bar in Durrow, we have hosted our St. Stephens Day Paddle get together in Bobβs every year and for any business or home itβs not something anybody would want to happen. We wish the family the very best of luck in the coming years.
Interested in Kayaking: With the short evenings, paddling is now only on at weekends. Please check our website and Facebook for details on kayaking lessons and also for details on upcoming trips and competitions. Please visit www.laoiskayak.com online.
