IMNDA: The Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association would like to thank all who contributed so generously to their Annual Church Collection held in Durrow and Cullohill on September 6th and September 7th. A total of €1,110 was collected!

COMHOLTAS: Adult music Classes are on Thursdays between 7.30pm and 9.30pm in Heritage House, Abbeyleix. If you are a complete beginner, instruments supported are Tin Whistle, Fiddle, Banjo If you can play your instrument competently, and are interested in learning new traditional Irish tunes in a group, then you are very welcome with any instrument. Last year there were guitar, banjo, fiddle, tin whistle, flute. This year, we would like to have enough adults and a variety of instruments to make up an adult groupa cheoil (i.e. up to 20 performers). PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR INTEREST ASAP, and your instrument, level of experience. We hope to commence classes, assuming we have sufficient numbers. Fees will be confirmed once numbers are known. CHURCH CLEANERS: Due to the decline in Church cleaners for reasons of health etc… we urgently need more men and women with one hour to spare per week to come on the rota. We try to have four in a group, so the more groups we have the less you will be called on during the year. TALK: Alzheimers/Stroke Related/Dementia: Alzheimers/Challenging Behaviour in older adults talk with Mia McLoughlin, consultant psychiatrist for later life. AWARE: The Aware Support Group for people experiencing depression, anxiety, stress and other mood related conditions meets every Tuesday at 7.30pm in St.Peter and Paul’s Parish Centre, Portlaoise. CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR: A Christmas Craft Fair will be held in The Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow on Saturday 8th November from 11am to 6pm. Crafts people from all over counties Laois and Kilkenny will present their unique Christmas gifts at affordable prices. Come, Browse and Buy!

SHOE-BOX APPEAL: It’s that time of year again when an appeal goes out to one and all to donate a shoe-box/boxes for the benefit of less well off children in the under-developed world. SATURDAY MARKET: Durrow Saturday market is open every Saturday from 9am to 12.30pm in the Computer Centre beside the RC Church on the Kilkenny Rd. Potato’s and Fresh Vegetables are available, to book your favourites please ring Marie on (087) 7742506. Home Baking from Bernie Brennan is also now available with a selection of fresh breads, scones, tarts and cakes. You can also book cakes for parties etc. with Bernie. BRIDGE CLUB: Durrow Bridge Club resumed on Wednesday October 1st in the Presentation Centre. We look forward to meeting all our friends/players each Wednesday night at 7.45pm.

WHIST DRIVE: The Killermogh Parish Monthly Whist Drive resumed for the winter season recently and will be held on the fourth Thursday of every month. The last meeting’s winners were… Top Score: Ann Mulhall; First Lady: Lena McEvoy; Second Lady: Una Cahill. First Gent: Mick Kelly; Second Gent: Billy Carter. Halves: Sean Fitzpatrick and Damien Carter. Low Score: Mary McEvoy. Quarters: Patricia Delaney, Mary Orr, Des Finnamore and Madge Brennan. CHURCH BAZAAR: The Killermogh Group of Parishes Church Bazaar will take place on Sunday 19th October 2014 from 2pm to 5pm at The Durrow Parochial Hall, Cork Road, Durrow. An afternoon for all the family. Jam & Cake stalls, Bric-Brac, Raffles, guessing games together with various fun activities.

CULLOHILL COMMUNITY CENTRE AGM: Cullohill Community Centre will be holding their AGM at 7.30pm on Wednesday 15th October in the Community Centre. All are welcome. It will be a great chance to get an update of on-going developments and how the funds from the Community Auctions were spent. There will be an opportunity for a tour of the New Handball Facility on the evening, followed by refreshments.

CULLOHILL NATIONAL SCHOOL PARENTS COUNCIL: A Halloween Fancy Dress Party will be held on Saturday 25th October at 9pm in O’Connells Pub, Cullohill. There will be prizes for the best outfits, raffle prizes, music and much more… Admission is only €5 and all proceeds will go to Cullohill National School Parents Council. So get your thinking cap on, get your outfit ready for what will be a great night and we look forward to seeing you there!

JAMES FINTAN LALOR SCHOOL: This year’s James Fintan Lalor School takes place in Portlaoise on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th October. There’s a great line up again this year, with speakers including Sean O’Rourke, Áine Lawlor, Diarmaid Ferriter, John Lonergan, Pat Moylan, Fr Peter McVerry, Noeline Blackwell, Michael Martin TD, Eoghan Harris and many many more.
