LKCC late September 2014 Roundup
LAOIS KAYAK AND CANOE CLUB: ‘Beat the Barge’ is on in Vicarstown this Saturday 20th September (meeting at the canal at 6pm). This is always a good race and we wish club members the best of luck!
Junior Paddlefest takes place this week-end in Hidden Valley, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow from 19th to the 21st September. It’s a great introduction to kayaking for 8 to 18 year olds giving you a chance to try out all the disciplines of canoeing. We wish all our club members the best of paddling fun for the weekend.
Training for World Freestyle Trials takes place this Sunday in Easky, Sligo. The training day will be given by Barry Loughnane, Moe Kelleher and Len Kelleher and will consist of a short bank session, how to release your kayak on a wave along with two sessions in the surf with video analysis after. We wish Calvin O’Brien the best of luck moving from Junior into Seniors.
At the City of the Tribe’s Races in Galway there was a big turnout in all categories. Well done to Paul Byrne who was the first member of our club to enter a K1 division, with one of two K1’s that we have on loan from the marathon committee. Well done also to Matt McGrath who came third in GP class, It was an extremely fast race.
Congratulations to Conall Whelan who finished fifth and Mikie Murphy who finished twelfth in the Junior Liffey Descent Under 18 on the 7th September. It was a very competitive and challenging race.
Note: Due to the shorter evenings, paddling will now be on at the weekends only. Please keep an eye out on Facebook and on our web site www.laoiskayak.com for details.
