Third Laois Durrow Scouts held their 40 year anniversary in the scout garden last Wednesday night. The event kicked off with the investiture of nine new beavers, three new cubs and a new leader in the Beaver section. Awards were presented by youth members to Seamus Comerford for five years service, Eva-Maria Dunne and Debbie Stapleton for ten years service and Angela Drennan for 40 years service. Three of the original founding members Alan Newman, Maura Rafferty and Angela Drennan were in attendance and they were presented with Plaques, while a candle was lit and moment of remembrance was held for Mary Walsh & Sr. Bowe. There was a great turnout of parents at the event and it was lovely to have the whole group together again.
Ventures: The Ventures group competed in the County Sword and finished in First Place so a huge congratulations to them and this weekend both Scout & Venture sections are off camping at Spraoi 2022.
The group would like to extend a Huge thank you to O’Brien Bros Painters for the fantastic job they did on restoring the large stained glass windows on the side of the den.
Waiting List: The group have huge numbers in all sections this year so unfortunately can’t take any new members at the moment. A waiting list is currently in operation for September and to add your child just send their name and their age to gldurrow@gmail.com by email.
