COMMUNITY ENDEAVOUR AWARD 2018: A big congratulations to Mary Ryan who was presented with the Community Endeavour Award for 2018 during the recent Scarecrow Festival. Mary was involved with the Durrow Carnival and was a repeat winner at Fancy Dress Parade that was a feature of the Annual Carnival. Mary was also involved in the Badminton Club where she played for years winning trophies and awards. Mary was also a driving force behind the Lord Mayor campaign to build the Community Hall. She also was an active member of the local ICA group, serving a term as president.
Mary was very involved in the Church helping with all communions, confirmations, special events, making Altar drops, decorations for the Church for lots of occasions, and also involved with the Apostolic Society. Mary also organised the Blood Bank coming to Durrow while it ran in the Community Hall. Mary is also a member of the Cullohill and Durrow Flower Club and always is on hand to help with our local School plays and Scarecrow Summer Camps where she has designed, altered, transformed, re-used and created many costumes and she has also taught knitting, sewing, crafts, etc…
Outside of Durrow, Mary helps with Laois Riding for Disabled, volunteers for the Special Olympics and was involved with the Make Believers Charity. Ultimately, the person you go to when, you are in a bind, Mary has always and continues to be a great help to everyone in the community and this award to her is truly deserved. Congratulations Mary!
