Swan Road to fundraise for Improvements
The Swan Road Action Group was set up in 2012, with its main objectives being the removal of the bad bends on the road and the construction of a footpath which would ultimately make our road a safer one for all users. To date, through correspondence and co-operation with Laois County Council, significant progress has been made. The next step in the plan is the extension of the footpath beyond the Harps GAA grounds. This will hopefully be completed this year through a community involvement scheme in which our group must provide 20% of the total cost. Some of this cost can be in lieu of work carried out by the community, such as the removal of the trees on the bend, the rest must be raised by our committee.
On June 15th we will hold a sponsored cycle/walk commencing at 3pm from Bob’s Bars (for cyclists) or Dunmore Wood (for walkers). Registration begins from 2pm at Bob’s Bar. The fee is €10 for adults and children go FREE! Later at 5pm Lee Campion’s new band: “Drops of Green” will provide the entertainment and food will be served. All proceeds raised on the day will go directly toward the aforementioned project, which we hope you will be kind enough to support.
If you cannot be there but would like to support this noble cause, donations can be made to Fred Townsend – phone:(087) 6892323 or any member of the group. We appeal to all clubs, organisations and individuals to help out in any way possible to help us raise the money or carry out the work.
The committee would like to thank all who have helped in any way so far especially the hedge planters, Emmet Dunne and Humphrey Dowling for the top soil and Martin Bergin, The ‘G’ Phelan, Jim and Cathal Murphy, John Clooney and anyone else who gave of their time or machinery free gratis. Please support.
